The Burning Star (Star Series) by Jessie Lane, M.L. Pahl - Romance>Fantasy eBook

Seventeen-year-old Kay’s journey of a lifetime started in the woods where she met a beautiful man … along with a monster. The chance encounter led her to an unbelievable world that shouldn’t have existed, a place where myths and fairytales were real and, in some cases, deadly.
Kay knew she would have to brave this new world if she hoped to find a cure for her terminal cancer.
With a strange yet beautiful cast of characters, Kay uncovered truths that would change her life forever. However, before it was all over, she discovered she wasn’t the only one with problems.

Yet another seventeen-year-old young woman was fighting for her life.
Kira had grown up in a magical world. Despite this, her life had not been filled with many good things. She considered her empty, emotional solitude the only positive aspect of her life and fought daily battles to escape abuse and torture.
Trained to be an expert assassin, she was charged with kidnapping Kay and delivering her to Kira’s master, Lord Donovan.
As the two young women set forth on their journeys, their paths would cross in unimaginable ways. There was only one question that remained: who would come out alive?

WARNING: This is a upper ya/young adult/new adult fictional story that includes some explicit language, graphic violence, and mild sexual situations. Recommended for ages sixteen and up.

From Mandy @ I Read Indie
Kay is used to moving around every few years to different big cities looking for doctors that will offer her a cure. But with a few months to live they move to Asheville, NC where her father was from with hopes of finding that cure. Kay is determined to fight this cancer to the end and survive to see her 18th birthday. Who knows, maybe she can even talk her mom into sticking around here for a bit. But when she comes across a gorgeous guy getting attacked by a mutant looking wolf the crazy just gets crazier from there. Now there is talk of faeries and werewolves...maybe her cancer meds are making her crazy. Or maybe there really is a different way of life for her with powers she only read about in books. The Burning Star was such a wonderful read. But even with the edited version I was given I still had a hard time following the dialogue between characters. It just didn't flow together well in certain areas. I had found myself having to reread sections just to make sure I understood who was talking. And there was still a few spelling errors throughout the book. Ok, with that aside...I loved the whole Faery story. There is just something so neat and magical about Faeries and this story was right on target with them. The authors made sure they kept to legends and even added their own little touches to the story. There is even a story inside of the story with The Burning Star. Yes we get Kay's POV and some from Nick and Ryan...but we also get Kira's POV. At first you don't think much of her part; it just seems she is summoned to track down Kay. But soon we start getting more and more of her story...and in the end it all ties together nicely while still leaving us with an enticing little clifferhanger. I think fans of Julie Kagawa's The Iron Fey series and Carrie Jones' Need series will really enjoy The Burning Star. There are lots of hidden secrets throughout the book and gorgeous faeries and weres to keep the readers interest. So pick up The Burning Star today.

This book grabbed my interest quickly and held on for dear life. Kay is a wonderful character who is diagnosed with cancer, and struggles to come to grips with what she really is. Ryan and Nick are two very funny characters who had me laughing out loud with their antics. There were a couple more characters that I loved, but I don't want to mention them and give out spoilers. :)

A thrilling adventure that will make you believe in miracles. Kay was told that she will die before she reaches her eighteenth birthday, but her mother is determined to save her. When they move out of Ahseville, NC to try a new set of cancer specialists Kay finds something that may be able to help her. What she finds in the woods outside of Asheville and a mysterious boy named Ryan may prove to be her one chance at seeing her eighteenth birthday. However the journey is not over yet and her mother has secrets of her own that will change her world forever. The imagery was breathtaking and imaginative. I had no trouble getting lost in this intense and exciting new story. It was an excellent coming of age story because Kay is still discovering herself and who she truly is. While on her journey she will discover things about her life that she never would have dreamed and she will learn that not all things are what they seem. The romance was sweet and I really wasn't sure which character I liked best. I loved the mystery and suspense in this story because it kept me guessing until the very end and it was written very well without giving too much away, but leaving hints along the way. Kay was a fun character to get to know. She was easy to relate to and I believe many kids her age can identify with some of the things she was feeling, even though some of her experiences are a little more bizarre than normal. I also enjoyed seeing her grow as a character throughout the story. Ryan was definitely a mysterious and yet intriguing character. I'm sure every reader will love getting to know more about him like I did. This was an exciting story filled with mystery and romance that you will want to read again and again.

This was a really interesting & unique story, a great combination of some of my favorite paranormal characters. Definitely lots of excitement as Kay begins to realize everything around her is not as it seems, including her own life. I actually thought I had the story figured out a few pages in, but man I was in for a surprise! There are several good twists to keep things interesting. And there's no shortage of paranormal hotties, either! Although it didn't take me long to decide which one I was rooting for! Don't wanna spoil the story for you so let's just that this is definitely a book I would recommend & I absolutely can't wait to see what happens next!!

I'm not a big fan of young adult reads, and too keep my attention throughout it has to be rather brilliant, and I am happy to say this read was just that, brilliant. It surpassed my expectations and took me by surprise. I didn't see the angle with Kay's mother Carlie, I thought I had it pegged at Carlie stealing Kay when she as a baby or something along those lines, but I stood corrected. I loved how this story twisted and turned as the truth of Kay started to unfold, information and detail wasn't thrown at you in large volume which really helped with keeping track of each of the characters and understanding their role in the book. I love a good love-triangle and I have to say even though Ryan and Kay have great chemistry I can't help but be on Nick's team, there is just something about that werewolf that I keep getting drawn back to. The only negative I have is about the parts of the read with the Kira character, which didn't keep my interest until towards the end but with that being said, she is one kick-ass character. The ending, to put it mildly was a real cliff-hanger. I was left wanting more, needing more, I have to know what happens next! All I can say is that the next installment of this series is going to be action packed and I can't wait to see where this goes. Book Devotee Reviews

The Burning Star hooks you quick, like by the end of chapter 1 quick. I love to read, but I will only continue if it starts off running, and this book does! It has everything I love in books, mystery, love interest, the supernatural, and suspence. Just as your figuring one part out, in comes something else , and just like that, your still hooked. I cant wait for the next book in the series, and more titles from Jessie Lane!

I have never been so involved with a book since Harry potter and the twilight series . The Burning Star by Jessie Lane is an action pack adventure that takes you on a journey of a life time. I fell in love with all the characters and can't wait for next book of the series to come out .The story line flowed easily from reality to fantasy which transported you right into the action with Kay. This is a must read book and I can see this story line becoming a movie later on down the road.. I just want to say I have read a lot of books and this book is right up there with the best. Bravo to the authors .
From pengelf
I love mystery, fantasy, and romance novels but have never been able to find a book to adequately combine all three, until now that is. The Burning Star by Jessie Lane is just that and more! What starts as a simple mystery, turns quickly to romance and then to mind blowing fantasy and does so all before the end of chapter 2. It definitely grabs your attention and holds it completely from the start of Kay's adventure until the end of the book, leaving you desperate for more. I am well versed in all three types of novels and this one by far takes the lead as my personal favorite and I cannot wait til Kay's adventure continues! I am looking forward to more great things from Jessie Lane.

I received a copy of this book from the authors in exchange for an honest review. I read this book a couple of months ago, but before I could post a review, the authors contacted me to notify me they were editing the original copy. This is a review for the newly edited copy, which was much much better and I'm happy to have been able to review the second version. The first book was riddled with errors, such as switching from third person to first person and a lot of spelling errors that were hard to ignore over time. Aside from one sentence and a couple of words, these errors were completely fixed. This version was much easier to read and enjoy and I'm glad I got a chance to read it! This was a great story. It was fast paced, action packed, and full of interesting twists and turns. The book begins from Kay's point of view, but occasionally switches to other characters. Kay, who is dealing with cancer, moves to Asheville, NC with her mom and meets Ryan, a handsome stranger, in the woods. She patches him up before her mom gets home after an encounter with a dog. The next morning, she meets Nick, a handsome satellite installer. I have to say, I've never once had a satellite dish installer be as nice, good looking, and compelling as Nick, but I suppose this IS fiction. =) When Ryan picks her up for a date, things take a dramatic turn. The story switches points of view from Kay, Ryan, and Nick. Then, we meet Kira. I don't want to give any of her story away, but it's incredibly interesting and I enjoyed this part of the book. Kira isn't introduced to Kay at all in the book, but I suspect there will be a introduction in the next book of the series. Kira gives her story from her point of view. The entire premise of the book is completely original to me and it captivated me at once. I loved Kay's character. She was charming and funny. I liked the slight competition for Kay's attention by Nick and Ryan, who were both completely different. I liked them a lot. Kira might be my favorite character because I found her so intriguing. She was incredibly perceptive and I hope she is a major part of book 2. This book has fairies, angels, werewolves, sickness, destiny, fate, drama, love, and mysteries. Such an incredible premise and all these elements were woven together quite well.
