Description

Sunset at Lake Crane (A Livingston Valley Novel) by Casey Hagen - Romance>Contemporary eBook

Love, truth, and pain lie buried beneath the Sunset at Lake Crane . . .

Faced with a blackmailer’s ultimatum, 19-year-old Erynn O’Neal protects her lover by disappearing from his life. Brokenhearted, she vanishes—and takes a life-altering secret with her.

Grant Alexander crossed the line when he took former student, Erynn O’Neal, as his own a mere two months after her high school graduation. Knowing the truth revealed would shred his career and reputation, he accepted the risks in exchange for the promise of a lifelong love. A heartbeat later, Erynn abandoned him without a word.

Years pass as Grant and Erynn lead separate lives–he as a reclusive author, she as an ambitious reporter. Yet, despite scarred hearts, true love lost is never forgotten, and Grant devises a way to draw Erynn back into his sphere of passion. Their aching hearts begin a tentative détente, but old jealousies flare, devastating truths come to light, and Grant and Erynn must resurrect and overcome the painful secrets of the past if they’re ever to love again.

Excerpt:
"You told him about us."
"Yes."
"Why did you tell him?"
She looked away. "I didn't have a choice."
A loaded statement. One he would get to the bottom of. "You didn't tell him you were coming back here."
"No, I didn't."
"Why, Erynn?" He moved toward her.
He sensed her nerves and the attraction as she tried to turn away. But he had her. She wanted something from him, so she wouldn't run.
“My uncle doesn't think being here will be good for me." She blinked up at him as he stepped closer.
Her pulse fluttered in her throat, visible under her creamy porcelain skin. He reached over and grasped the edge of the counter next to her as he invaded her space. "Why doesn't he think this will be good for you?" he rasped as his eyes roamed over her kissable mouth. Her pink tongue darted out and moistened her dry lips.
"He thinks you'll hurt me."
He braced his arm on the other side of her, locking her in, and let out a deep laugh devoid of humor. "I'll hurt you? Hurting you is the last thing on my mind at the moment."
He heard her swallow. She wouldn't meet his eyes. She wanted him as much as he wanted her. He knew it and he was going to use it.
"Look at me, Erynn."
She glanced up and away.
He leaned into her. "Look. At. Me."
She did, her breath coming in sharp little pants pelting his skin.
"I'll give you what you want."
Her eyes lit up.
"On one condition."
"What? What do you want from me?" she whispered.
"Kiss me."
She squirmed, not that she could go far with his arms bracketing her. He held steady, keeping her locked between him and the cool granite counter. He wanted to lay her out up there like a feast and devour her. All in due time.
"I can't."
"Can't or won't?" He’d never intended to push this fast. Having her there taking over his kitchen made him want. Her scent invaded every dark corner of his house, causing him to burn with need. Just one taste and he could relax.
Her eyes darted everywhere but at him. "I live with someone."
"Bullshit."
He wrapped his hand around the back of her neck and took her mouth in a hard, bruising kiss. She stiffened, so he lightened the pressure. With a couple slides of his lips back and forth, she softened against him. Her sigh spurred him on. He was wrong. One kiss would never be enough. Not by a long shot. She was his, still his, always his.
He teased her lips with his tongue, coaxing her open, sweeping his tongue inside. Her sweetness haunted him, turning him into a starving man, desperate and searching, but never quite getting enough. The small victory of her hands sliding along his shoulders fueled him. He loved how in her desperation, her hands clutched at him, her fingernails biting into his skin.
When her tentative tongue slid along his, he deepened the kiss, needing more. He grasped her hips, lifting her a bit and fitting her against his hardness. He couldn't control his groan at her warm heat pressing against him. She gasped, and he took the opportunity to run his lips and tongue along her jaw, neck, and collarbone, taking little nips of her soft flesh. Her soft moans told him she approved.
Emboldened, he slid his hand along the edge of her shirt. He needed skin. Warm, soft skin. Her skin. He moved to lay her back, but the doorbell rang. Her haze-filled eyes met his. He pressed his forehead to hers for a brief moment, struggling for control. He softened his hold, but let his fingers linger at the nape of her neck. He savored the feel of those soft wisps where they met the delicate skin of her neck.
Her face flushed. His cock jumped when she licked her kiss-swollen lips. "You still want me."
Her beautiful, haunted eyes stared right into him, but she said nothing.
"You have your time with your grandmother.” He pulled away, adjusted his pants, and went to answer the door.
