Pandora's Hope by Lisa Lane - Romance>Paranormal/Horror

Captain Nora Bradley, her fianc and First Officer Robert Smith, and crew have developed quite the reputation: their current tactical officer is an astral clone of the one they started with; a race of shape-shifting aliens currently travels the stars as an impostor of "Pandora's Hope"; and everyone is still recovering from the embarrassing and life-changing ship-wide orgy caused by their bout with the "space flu." Worst of all, though, is that the more Nora tries to plan their wedding, the more Robert gets cold feet....

Now that the ship is back on mission, with a glorified babysitter from Space-Corp on its way, it seems that the ship-wide fun might be forced to an end - but first impressions always prove wrong on Pandora's Hope, and the new addition to their crew, "Quality Control Officer" Patrice Jocar, might have more in common with her new peers than they think. In this second installment of the Lust in Space series, the crew of Pandora's Hope explores more exotic intergalactic regions, picking up the most unlikely of refugees and encountering new alien species - while their wild and sexy antics continue.

Will Nora and Robert's relationship survive another excursion into deep space, or will the experience tear them apart for good?

Nora and Robert sat together in a soft candlelit glow, enjoying a makeshift picnic on the floor of her room. They shared a bottle of sparkling cider, sipping the tart, bubbly beverage from champagne flutes. Intoxicated not by their drink, but by the presence of one another, they enjoyed the quiet calm of the moment and the feel of their bodies relaxing close together. She wore a revealing red teddy, and Robert couldn’t take his eyes off her supple body.
“You are beautiful,” he said, admiring her.
She finished her glass, then set it aside.
They moved together, kissing passionately. Her body ached for him, and a rush of excitement raced through her as his hands moved to explore every inch of her. He lifted her into his arms, his lips caressing her neck as he moved her to the bed, slowly shedding his clothes.
She closed her eyes, lying back as he began to kiss her body. His lips trailed along the seam of her teddy, then he slid away the lacy material and sampled her with his tongue. She brought her knees up, her body tensing as he teased and tasted her. She let out a light moan, hungry for more, running her fingers through his hair and coaxing him on.
He looked up at her, his hands searching her body. He found her breasts and began to fondle them, breathing heavily against her in his excitement. He built her slowly, his tongue going deep, caressing her gently with broad and eager sweeps, shifting to her clit with soft kisses and driving arcs. As her body tensed, moving toward climax, he teased her with a sudden reprieve, moving instead to caress her thighs with his warm, wet lips. “I need to feel you inside me!” she whispered, desperate for the release.
An electric rush coursed through her, sending her heart racing and her body breathless as he climbed over her, his lips moving to her breast, then trail¬ing up to her neck. His naked body was hot and ready, his hard erection brushing against her, and she wrapped her legs around him as he moved to enter her. She guided him in, pulling him close, a mix of calm and excitement hitting her as she thrust against him, bringing their bodies together with a satisfied moan. They rocked together, building slowly but eagerly, the feel of their union intensifying as her body went tight and her nails dug into his back.
He began to thrust harder, allowing once again for her pleasure to build. She shifted her body to take him even deeper, and the fire between them began to grow as he hit a spot that caused them both to tense and shake. She anchored her feet behind his back, driving him in even harder. Her body writhed as the release came, and she cried out, each thrust building on the ecstasy of the last.
He held deep inside her, moaning as she continued to thrust her hips. He tensed, and the rapture returned once more as he climaxed, then they both went still, breathless and exhausted.
He pulled away, and then immediately collapsed at her side. “You’re amazing,” he said.
She smiled, feeling warm and relaxed as she lay across the soft picnic blanket. She turned to him and their eyes met. “I’m amazing?” “Very.”
She breathed deeply, taking in his rich scent as he moved closer to steal another quick kiss.
He wrapped an arm around her and gave a contented sigh.
“I’ve been thinking about the wedding,” she said.
“What about it?” he asked.
“Well….” She paused. “It wouldn’t be too far out of our way for us to make a detour to Haslim space. We could bump up the date, stop through on our way to rendezvous with your new back-up first officer, then pick up our mission from there.”
He nodded, although she could tell he had his reservations. “We could do that.”
“But?” she asked.
“That wouldn’t give us much time to plan,” he said.
She shrugged. “It’s just a thought.”
He nodded the same reserved nod as he had a moment ago. “We’ll think about it.”
Suxie’s voice suddenly crackled over the intercom. “Captain, this is Officer Kasri. We have a situation on the bridge.”
Nora got to her feet and made her way to the console. “This is Captain Bradley. Report?”
“Captain, we have space pirates closing in. I have tried to communicate with them, but they continue to attempt a forced dock with our airlocks,” Sux¬ie said. “I can only outmaneuver them for so long.”
“Sorry about that,” Suxie said.
“I’ll be right there,” Nora said, and then closed the channel and searched for her clothes.
Robert followed suit, and the two hurried to get presentable.
“I’d like to see you dressed like a space pirate,” he said, watching her but¬ton her shirt.
She chuckled. “Maybe next Halloween.”
“That’s months away!” he said. “You couldn’t possibly make me wait that long.”
“Captain?” Suxie’s voice called over the intercom.
Nora returned to the console. “I’m on my way,” she said, then turned to Robert. “So much for a quiet afternoon picnic.”
Robert gave her a pat on the back. “That’s what we get for attempting to take the same shift off.”
“That’s not funny,” she said, his words hitting her in a strangely dark and ominous way. She tried to pretend that Robert’s apparent lack of enthusiasm over her desire to expedite their wedding plans didn’t hurt, although it bothered her more than she wanted to admit.
Hormones, she told herself. Although she was only a month pregnant with Robert’s child, she could tell it was already beginning to affect her. She felt more emotional about everything. The world felt more personal, her universe smaller and more delicate. She assured herself that this shift was only temporary, that her perspective would level itself once the pregnancy was past. Still, she felt hurt. Hormones … just hormones.
The crewmembers had endured much on Pandora’s Hope’s maiden voyage into the vast unknown. They had survived dream-hijacking soul drinkers, shape-shifters determined to steal both the ship and its inhabitants’ identities, an anomaly that replicated their tactician, leaving a past version of her torn forever from its place and time, and a space flu that left nearly every member helpless to their physical desires. Nora often wondered if her relationship with Robert would ever have taken that next step from repressed lust and desire to expressed love and passion, had they not both been stripped of their inhibitions during the fevered bout and succumbed to fucking one another senseless in the gym. She had conceived that evening, but even more, they both finally had no choice but to admit to how they really felt for one another. When she discovered her pregnancy, he proposed immediately. Suddenly they went from being two single officers with work as their top priority to a committed couple with hopes and dreams and plans. Why, then, did the future feel so uncertain?
“Captain?” Suxie’s called once more, her voice beginning to sound strained.
“On my way!” Nora said into the intercom, and hurried out of the room.
As she hurried down the hall, Robert a step behind her, a barrage of attacks hit all at once and the ship rumbled with the impact. Nora lost her footing and fell backward, into Robert’s quick arms. She gave him a grateful nod as she steadied her footing and the two continued down the hall. Security manager Brad Parker hurried to meet them as they neared the bridge.
“I’ve assembled a team at each of the airlocks,” Brad said. “Do you want me to report to the docks?”
Nora shook her head. “Hold your post outside the bridge and call as many men as you can to back you up. If the pirates do make it as far as the airlocks, I want to make sure our command stays secure.”
He nodded. “Yes, Captain.”
Nora turned to Robert. “You’re with me.”
Robert followed her onto the bridge just as another blast rattled the ship. The two hurried to their seats.
Navigator Geoffrey Stanton sat at his console, making calculations and directing the ship with Suxie’s coordinated efforts. His demeanor was atypically taut, sweat beading across his forehead and down the sides of his face. “Damn it to hell!” he said as he slapped his console. “We should have space-bended when we had the shot.”
“Captain,” Suxie began, turning to Nora, her voice tense. “Airlock two has just been breached. We couldn’t outmaneuver their ships. They were just too quick.” The tall Esirian had a defeated look on her face. The horn on her forehead was flushed and the rest of her face was ghostly white. She watched for Nora’s response, her lips tight with frustration.
Nora looked at her panel, seeing three ships moving parallel to Pandora’s Hope. The smallest of the three had attached to an airlock. Nora opened a communication channel to Brad. “This is Captain Bradley. I want step-by-step updates on airlock two.”
“Yes, Captain,” Brad’s voice crackled back. “The pirates are attempting to pry open the airlock as we speak. I have every guard I can spare working to defend the area.”
“Captain, another ship is closing in one airlock one!” Suxie cried, scrambling to enter new commands into her console.
“Aim the cannons,” Nora said, taking a deep, bracing breath.
Suxie shook her head. “They’ve disabled the cannons!”
Engineering Manager Andrew Wallace suddenly opened a communications channel from his console in the heart of the engine room. “Captain, the Locaru think they may know of a way to detach the attacking ship, but it may temporarily disable our space-bending drive.”
“The pirates have engaged airlock two,” Suxien said.
Another intercom channel opened, and Brad’s stern voice called through. “Captain, my men have informed me that the seal to airlock two is beginning to buckle. We have five minutes—tops—until the pirates have breached the dock.”
“Acknowledged. Prepare your guards to open fire,” Nora answered back, then quickly switched channels to the engineering room. “Tell the Locaru to proceed—and that, whatever they have in mind, they had better hurry.”
“Yes, Captain,” Andrew said, and closed the channel.
