A shadow detached itself from the darkened room and moved to her bed, to stand over her. Dark eyes flashed as the figure sat down by her side, doing it gently so she wouldn’t feel it.
He smiled, revealing the gleam of large, white teeth.
She was here. His for the taking . . . forever. He leaned over and kissed her lightly.
“Sleep well, my beloved,” he whispered. “For tomorrow you will be where I dwell. This time there is no mother to stop you from staying the year with me. Even Zeus won’t do anything. No half measures this time.” He stood up and with a snap of his fingers, a vortex opened. He stepped through it, treading heavily down stone steps leading to the Underworld. The dark whirling circle closed behind him.
