Time Out

The digital display read 1: A. M. Jake Gordon stared at the bedside clock wondering where in the hell his wife was. He’d tried to reach her on her cell phone several times, but had gotten no answer. He sat up in bed relieved when he heard the front door opening downstairs.

Lily Gordon entered the darkened house and quietly crept towards the stairs. She had just reached the top of the stairs when she saw the light come on in the master bedroom. She was tired and not in the mood for her husband’s silent condemnation. Taking a deep breath she entered the bedroom, dropped her satchel on the floor by the closet and began to undress. She could feel his eyes boring a hole into her back as she removed and discarded each piece of clothing. When she could stand it no longer she turned and glared back at him. “Is there something you want to say to me?”
