The Dragon Amulet: Inheritance

He shuffled through the test papers with a look of disgust. “Dreadful, absolutely dreadful, Miss Swanson,” he said with more than a hint of disappointment in his voice. “You barely even got through half of it. I tabulated your average while you were over there wasting our time and now I can positively conclude that you have no hope of passing my class this semester. ” He looked at me condescendingly and smirked before turning his attention back to his papers. “Perhaps you should enroll at a college more…your speed.”

Tears welled up in my eyes and I felt like breaking down right in front of him. It wouldn’t be anything new to Mr. Gantry, though. I had a feeling he somehow got off on it. “What an asshole!” I thought, and the heat began to return. Never before had someone said something so insulting to me. The amulet felt like it was glowing hot, threatening to singe my flesh at any moment. Everything coalesced into a single thought, “Who the hell does he think he is?”

Then, as if by magic, he suddenly looked up at me and announced, “Perhaps I’m being a bit too harsh. I suppose that I could relax my policy, just this once.”

I was stunned and it dawned on me that I hadn’t even said a word. Never had I heard of Mr. Gantry actually bending the rules for a student. The look on his face had turned from one of scorn to an apologetic expression. The burning heat from the amulet seemed to fade and I touched it and looked down at the blue crystal embedded in the metal. It was shining brilliantly, like a star was trapped inside it. Again, I became aware of a deep throbbing in my loins.

Grandma hadn’t been trying to rehash old memories in her letter when she mentioned that the amulet had some power to it, after all. It was doing something on its own, feeding off my thoughts, influencing Mr. Gantry and filling me with desire!

“D minus,” he said, shifting in his seat uncomfortably. “That’s the best I can do.”

I had to test it. I had to be sure I wasn’t just hallucinating.

With an air of focused calm, I replied, “No, I think you can do better.” Once I said the words, I could faintly make out a vague, swirling tendril of power that flowed from the amulet and into Mr. Gantry’s eyes. At the same time, the strange feeling of a warm tongue flickering across my sex caused me to suppress a moan and dig my fingernails into his desk.
