Centuries ago, as men measure time, the great Goddess Danu created a scepter. She poured vast amounts of raw magical energy into the cursed thing. With time, though, Danu came to fear her own creation. She gave the foul thing to her sister, the goddess of battle, Macha. Perhaps Danu thought that Macha’s powers would offer protection from the scepter. If so, she thought wrongly. Macha became victim to the insanity caused by the scepter, and in her paranoia, she retreated to the mounds at Tara. There she secluded herself from the world and used the power of the scepter to create bodyguards. These guards were neither man nor beast, but both, creatures who were of both worlds. I am one of those creatures, neither a woman nor wolf am I, but both. I am a bodyguard; now I guard mankind. I always will.
