Excerpt:
Eva Robin thought she rang the doorbell, but couldn’t remember.
Alex Parker, her fiancée, kissed her as if they hadn’t seen each other in weeks, and Easter dinner with her closest friends was the last thought on her mind.

“I don’t want to fight,” she managed when his mouth left hers to trail down her neck. His hands undid the buttons to her coat, untucking her blouse and finding her breasts before she could protest – they were in front of Cardinal’s house, where anyone could see them.

“Good,” he said against her skin.

Arching against him, she pressed against his cock, already hard through the layers of clothing and coats separating them. “But I have to invite my entire family.”

“Eva,” he said, pulling back to look at her. “I’m about to give you an orgasm in the doorway of your friend’s house and that’s all you can say?”

“Uh,” she shook her head, and felt a faint blush of embarrassment color her cheeks. Not at his words, or even at her insistence to continue their previous argument, but rather at the very public locale of his lovemaking.

“Good.” He nodded and tugged sharply on her nipple. She felt the sensation straight to her core and rocked against him.

Please, she thought, please don’t let me have rung the bell.

She’d worn pants and now cursed her decision. When Alex’s fingers unzipped her pants, his cold fingers immediately slipping into her warm heat, she bucked against him. Ice cubes, she remembered, and made a half-assed mental note to try them. Tonight.

“Now,” he whispered against her mouth. This close, his dark eyes looked very serious and she was captivated. “Don’t scream.”

His fingers pumped in and out of her quickly, his still-cold thumb pressed against her clit. In moments, she was jerking against him, her orgasm crashing over her. Unsatisfied, she still throbbed for more, but Alex withdrew his hand, zipped up her pants, and tucked in her shirt. Mouth gentle on hers, he gave her little kisses, as if he was reluctant to pull away.

Eva liked that – it was sweet and endearing – and pulled him closer for a more satisfying kiss. When she pulled away this time, she smiled.

“Still needy?” he asked. Shocked, she nodded. “Good. Now,” he continued, and the wicked look in his eyes made her wetter. Her heart, still racing, pounded against her chest, and Eva swore her fingers tingled.

“Don’t go into the bathroom and finish yourself. I want you to spend the entire dinner wet and wanting me.”

She already was and already did. Narrowing her eyes, she demanded, “Is this because of our. . .” She paused, and rephrased. “Our previous argument?”

“Yup.” He grinned and lowered his head to press his lips to hers. But his hand, which she hadn’t noticed moving, glided over her pants-covered core. He rubbed the seam of the clothing along her clit, causing her to shiver with want. Now her fingers really did tingle and she wanted to plunge them into her own wetness and bring herself off. Here. Now. Who cared who watched? As long as Alex did.

Oh, fuck, she wasn’t going to be able to think the entire rest of the day.

“Let’s drop it for today,” she moaned. Alex nodded and removed his hand. Eva moaned again and tried to move him back to her but he just smiled. Swallowing against the need that clawed her throat and pounded through her body, she wiped lipstick off his mouth. Her fingers shook.

“I love you.”

Alex rang the doorbell and smiled down at her. “Love you, too. Especially when you’re all drowsy and needy.”

She was about to comment on that – blame him for leaving her unsatisfied, then tormenting her with it; promise retribution; all of the above – when the door opened to a smirking Ethan. Fuck. She’d rung the bell before Alex distracted her.

“Afternoon.” He grinned, standing back to take their coats.

Alex looked unaffected, as if he hadn’t just been caught with his fingers literally on the goodies. Eva blushed harder.

“Um, I’ll just go help Cardinal,” she mumbled and headed for the kitchen.

Megan Cardinal-Walsh whistled over her high-tech mixer, looking disturbingly domestic as she made mashed potatoes. The kitchen was large and open, so with a quick wave, Eva slipped past her to the stove and stirred the simmering green beans.

“No one else here yet?” she asked when the mixer snapped off.

“No,” Cardinal turned, an apron reading I’m the best and don’t you forget it, covering her. Eva wondered if she’d bought the apron or Ethan had. Then she decided, given the fact they’d been caught outside the front door with Alex’s fingers down her pants, not to ask.

“I texted both Nightingale and Lark. I needed more milk, but they didn’t answer, so I sent Ethan for it.”

“Lark hasn’t been around for weeks. The World Bank keeps her busy.”

Eva defended her ex-roommate. “I’m sure she and Seth miss each other.”

“I’m sure,” Cardinal laughed, brown eyes sparkling with mischief, “she and Seth forgot the time and just realized they had to get out of bed.”

Eva laughed, but felt the flush back on her cheeks. Why did she have to be so pale-skinned? It wasn’t fair. Every blush was an instant notification of her feelings.

“I would’ve picked some up,” she offered, lifting the lid on a pot.
Cardinal cleared her throat. “You were already in the driveway with Alex. I didn’t want to disturb you.”

Horrified, Eva turned huge eyes to look at her friend. “Oh,” was all she managed.
