Momma's Getting Married

Galen Frost hung up the phone, pretty much lost for words for the first time in, well, a long while. In fact, the last time he'd been so twitterpated had been his last big fight with Shane. This time he supposed it was a good thing, but it still left him speechless as could be. Khan even came over to lick his hand, making sure he was okay.

"Shane? Darlin'?"

"Yeah, Len?" Shane was on the floor, washing Goober's ears. Khan was taunting the basset hound, a big rawhide bone dangling out of her drooly Rottie mouth.

"Momma's getting married."

"Whut?"

"You heard me. Momma's getting married. My momma." To a cowboy.

"Is she getting married to that rancher in Wyoming?"

He stared at Shane like the man had grown two heads. How did Shane know about that when he didn't? Really. "Who is he? What's he like?"

"Well..." Shane let Goober go, holding the towel up as the hound shook and flapped. "His name's Roger. He owns a great big spread in the mountains. Uh. Momma likes him a lot, like a lot a lot. He buys her flowers twice a week and took her to Denver for a rodeo."

"Someone took my momma to Denver without asking me?" Galen bristled, ready to go find Roger and kick his ass.

"She's over twenty one, Galen. I think she was scared to tell you, in case you growled." Shane tossed the towel aside, then headed over, hands sliding down his arms. "I think it's kinda cute, how she gets fluttery about him. Are we going to the wedding? I think you should give her away."

"That's what she wants." Shane smelled like ear wash and hound, which was not so horrible, really. He wasn't sure he was ready to give his momma away.

"Then we'll go." Shane searched his eyes. "You need to meet him, make sure you like him."

"I know. I won't make a stink, darlin'. This just all... I wish someone had told me." Was he that much of an ass?

"Yeah." Shane nodded. "I told her to. She made me promise not to say and that sucked because I wanted to, bad, but what do you do when a momma makes you swear, man? That's like a going to Hell thing."
