“So where’s Brian?” Logan adjusted the seat to get more comfortable for the ride home, and decided to get caught up.

“Um, we broke up.” Caitlyn bit her lip as she pulled out of the lot.

“Since when?”

“Since about three months ago. He wanted more than I was willing to give. We’re still friends though so you may see him later on. Like I said, your mom invited everyone we know. You ready for it?”

Logan nodded, and decided to put the focus back on her. She was a pleasant distraction. “I’m here whenever you’re ready to talk about it.”

“Of course you are.” Caitlyn smirked, and reached over to gently squeeze his hand. “But, I hardly think you want to hear about my boring love life, or lack thereof. You’ve been through a lot.”

“It’d be a pleasant distraction from the nightmare I just left. Believe me I see it over and over every time I close my eyes.” Logan gulped to keep his own emotion from showing and absently rubbed his injured leg.

“Well the same goes for you, mister. You seem to be coping well despite your bummed leg, physically anyway. Are you in any pain?” She looked at him quickly before putting her eyes back on the road, eyeing his other hand quickly as he rubbed his injured knee.

“Nothing I can’t handle.”

“Liar.” Caitlyn smiled. “When it gets to be too much for you, let me know if there’s anything I can do.”

“I will. So you and Brian—I thought it was going good. How much more did he want exactly?”

“The whole shebang.” Caitlyn sighed. “Look it was good while it lasted, but it just wasn’t meant to be. I fell in love with somebody else way before I even began with Brian but the timing was never right, and I’m just not willing to settle until I know if I can make it work with this other person first.”

“So there was somebody else all along?”

“Oh yeah.” Caitlyn chuckled. “Come on, Logan, don’t look so shocked.”

“Anyone I might know?” His curiosity peaked, and he felt the insane need to quiz her about it. This was Caitlyn, his Caity, and he needed to make sure this guy was good enough. Hell, who was he kidding? The minute she said she was single his heart rate picked up with hope, only to plummet with disappointment the second she mentioned her love for this other guy. Who the hell was he?
