Excerpt:
An hour later, he was in Dan’s truck headed for the hospital, trying to get the sound of Melanie’s screams out of his head. He had heard everything that happened in that house. Every sick and twisted thing Tony had said and done to Melanie. The sickening sound of flesh hitting flesh, and every harsh breath whispered in her ear. Every fucking single cry of pain. Luke slammed on the breaks and swerved to the side of the road. Throwing the gears into park, he bolted out of the truck to the side of the road where he fell to his knees, and lost the entire contents of his stomach.
He was no innocent when it came to witnessing the brutality in this world. Far from it. Hell, he’d been on the giving end of a lot of it in his special ops days. But this was Melanie. He had only heard ten minutes of her life. He could only imagine what she had gone through for five years with that bastard.
He got to his feet and walked to the side of his truck. He needed to get a hold of his emotions before he got to the hospital. It wouldn’t do anyone any good if he walked in there a basket-case full of fury. He couldn’t even get the satisfaction of killing the son of a bitch himself.
But he could stand by Melanie and help her through this, her and her baby. And he would, whether she wanted him to or not. He wasn’t walking away from her this time.

Romance, suspense and mystery! It doesn't get any better than that! This fast read is a real page turner with not even one boring paragraph!Submitted By: naptimegirl on Dec 3, 2009
I had high hopes since the reason our 2 H & H get together is not the average boy meets girl. But the Angst! I'm all for alittle conflict to make the getting together sweeter, but abuse after abuse made me hope for a HEA way before it comes. Threads were never explained ( dead guys voice in the phonecall) and our hero got over his impotentnance way too easy. (See Christine Feehan's Deadly Game for how it should be done.)Very happy to have it be the last page.Infidelity
