Excerpt:
The sight of his pink tongue sticking out from between two full, kissable lips almost caused Baxter to groan aloud. The man made him crazy. It wasn’t just because he was an obsessive control freak who demanded perfection from everyone involved in a case he prosecuted; from the forensic experts, down to the last witness. No, that would be the easy and safe answer. In reality, the sexy fucker revved his engine like no other man he’d ever met.It took all of Baxter’s self-control not to reach over the narrow table, grab the lapels of his jacket in both fists and jerk the hardheaded man into a kiss hot enough to set the room on fire.
“What are you, five?” Baxter continued to stare, and for a few seconds allowed the heat he felt to set his gaze on fire. “Or is that tongue wagging at me an invitation to kiss you until the top of your head blows off?”
Cameron gasped and sputtered, and then his mouth slammed shut.
Seeing the normally calm, cool and tightly wound attorney speechless made Baxter grin. He couldn’t help it.
“How’d you find out I was gay?” Cameron’s eyes narrowed and a red flush stained his cheeks. “My sexual preference isn’t your business.” He started to pace again, and Baxter could almost see the gears turning in the younger man’s head. “I won’t let you use my sexuality against me. I’ll go to the District Attorney myself first.”
“Whoa. Whoa. Who said anything about going to the DA or anybody else?” What the hell was going on? In a flash of true inspiration, Baxter realized why Cameron rarely talked of anything other than a case, and never developed out-of-office friendships with the people he worked with. Shit! Someone in Cameron’s past had found out his sexual orientation and tried to blackmail him. “I never said I’d tell anyone. Calm down and stop jumping to conclusions.”
“What else could you want from me, if not to hold the knowledge over my head, and use it to get a favor to call in at a future date? Or are you after money, instead?”
Baxter rolled his eyes and moved closer. “Who fucked with your mind, Cam? Stop burying your head in your ass and open your eyes. Did it ever occur to you that I might use the knowledge for my own benefit—to get something I wanted?”
“Hah. I knew it,” Cam barked, his voice filled with angry, righteous indignation. “I knew it. You do want something from me.”
