Liam Ferguson had been a particular pain to her growing up. He hung out with her brother--racing spacecrafts along Cadance Run or hunting bronas along the South Rim. Of course, being as she was a girl and expected to do nothing more with her life than grow up and have babies, she wasn't allowed to go with them.

Usually, she'd end up helping Liam's mother in the restaurant, learning how to cook. Her own mother was a mess in the kitchen and Diamond liked the excuse to get out of the fueling station. Though all these years later she could admit to herself that she liked an excuse to see Liam strutting through the kitchen with his shirt off. Since Werten's summers were brutally hot, he'd gone like that a lot.

Thinking of Liam, she stiffened. The man had been a walking contradiction. Just when she thought she couldn't hate him anymore, he'd do something so redeemable she believed to be in love with him. One moment he was dropping mud on her best dress, ruining it beyond repair, and the next he was saving her pet frentoc from drowning in a puddle. Though, most of the time he'd just been plain frustrating. Could she help it she smelled like spacecraft fuel from working all day and had a slight overbite? There was no reason he had to call her Buck Tooth Jane for five years. Even now the words still stung.

Well, she had news for Mr. Liam Ferguson. The bucked teeth were fixed and she was a drop dead in your tracks knockout.
