Abigail sensed Rocky was awake. It felt like he’d been sleeping for days but, in reality, less than an hour had passed since he’d dozed off. She hadn’t moved from the bedroom floor where he’d left her. The trailer door was still locked. Even if it hadn’t been, she wouldn’t have risked waking him. Not now she knew what he was capable of. She’d wait for the right opportunity. She had a university degree, for God’s sake! Surely it couldn’t be that difficult to outwit him. Unfortunately, Abigail knew it was his physical strength that would pose more of a problem. Her old life in Surrey seemed very far away.
Rocky barely seemed to notice her huddled on the floor when he got up and staggered through to the bathroom. Only after he’d pissed, run cold water over his face and grabbed a bottle of beer, did he acknowledge her presence. He grinned when he saw how uncomfortable she looked, then belched loudly.
‘Better get yourself cleaned up, pumpkin. The boys are coming over to kick back and watch some ball. I don’t want no friends of mine seeing you with spunk all over your face.’
‘Your friends are coming here?’ she whispered incredulously. How could Rocky hold her here against her will if there were witnesses around? She could leave! Unless, the awful thought suddenly occurred to her, his buddies were as ignorant, mean and twisted as he was. Abigail had never felt as lost or as lonely in her life.
‘I was thinkin’ you could serve our beers, Tammy. Give the place a female touch. That refrigerator sure smells bad!’
It took a minute for the words to sink in. He was going to have her clean his home and serve him beer! She was going to be no more than a maid, Rocky’s own personal attendant to wait on him and his friends hand and foot. And mouth? Heart sinking, Abigail realised it was an arrangement his friends would probably be more than happy to co-operate with, whether the ‘maid’ was consenting or not.
